Finding a font should take minutes, not an afternoon

Every major font site was designed before smartphones. You scroll categories, squint at sample strips and open twenty tabs. Typesay replaces that with one question: what do you want it to feel like?

Describe it

Type or say what you want in plain words: warm rounded sans for a bakery, elegant serif for a wedding. Every font is scored on how it feels and what style it belongs to, and your words are matched against those scores.

Show us a picture

Upload a photo or screenshot of lettering. Typesay reads the words, renders them in every font and compares the actual letter shapes, so you get the closest matches in seconds.

Preview it properly

Your own text on every card, then size, weight, spacing and line height controls, plus poster, logo, label and website mockups on every font page.

Fair to designers

Independent type designers sell here and keep the full price on their first three fonts. From the fourth, Typesay takes 25 percent, far less than the big marketplaces.

What is on Typesay

Thousands of free fonts under open licences such as the SIL Open Font License, including the complete Google Fonts library, all allowed for personal and commercial use with the licence included in every download. Alongside them, commercial fonts from independent designers, sold under plain-language desktop, web and app licences.

Who makes it

Typesay is built by a small team who spent too many years looking for the right font for client work. It is independent, funded by advertising on free font pages and by commission on commercial fonts.

Where next

Fonts are the start. The same search that finds a font from a description or a photo will find icon sets, illustrations, templates and design tools. If you make any of those, talk to us.

Questions

Is Typesay free to use?

Yes. Searching, previewing and downloading free fonts costs nothing. Commercial fonts are priced by their designers.

Where do the free fonts come from?

From their designers' public releases under open licences, including the Google Fonts library and the Fontsource project. Each font page links to the original source.

How is Typesay different from Google Fonts or DaFont?

You search by describing the feeling or by showing a picture, previews use your own words with real mockups, and independent designers can sell here with a fair commission.
