Terms of use

Plain-language terms for visitors, buyers and authors. Last updated 1 October 2026.

Using Typesay

Typesay is a place to find, preview, download and buy fonts. You may use it for lawful purposes. Do not scrape the catalogue, resell downloads, or interfere with the service.

Free fonts

Free fonts are provided under the licence stated on their page and included in the download, most often the SIL Open Font License. Those licences come from the font's designer, not from Typesay, and they govern what you may do with the files. Typesay makes no promise about a free font's quality, completeness or fitness for a purpose.

Paid fonts

When you buy a paid font you receive a licence, not ownership. The licence type you choose (desktop, web or app) sets what you may do, as described on the licensing page. Licences are per buyer and may not be transferred or resold. Because fonts are digital goods delivered immediately, refunds follow our refund policy.

Who sells paid licences

Our order process is conducted by our online reseller Paddle.com. Paddle.com is the Merchant of Record for all our orders. Paddle provides all customer service inquiries about billing and handles returns. When you buy a licence you also agree to Paddle's buyer terms.

Authors

The full agreement for sellers is in the terms and conditions of business. In short:

By uploading a font you confirm that you created it or hold the rights to distribute it, and that it does not infringe anyone else's rights. You keep ownership of your work. You grant Typesay the right to display, preview, sell and deliver it under the licences you choose for as long as it is listed. Typesay may decline or remove a font at any time, for example for licence concerns or quality issues.

Your first three listed fonts are commission free. From the fourth, Typesay retains 25 percent of each sale. Payouts are made monthly for balances above the minimum, using the method in your profile. You are responsible for any taxes on your earnings.

Content and takedowns

If you believe a font on Typesay infringes your rights, follow the DMCA process. We remove content on valid notices and may close accounts that repeatedly infringe.

Liability

Typesay is provided as is. To the extent the law allows, we are not liable for losses arising from the use of the site or of any font downloaded or bought here. Nothing here limits rights you have as a consumer under South African or other applicable law.

Prices, currency and tax

Prices are shown in US dollars. Your bank or card provider converts to your currency at its own rate. Where checkout offers your local currency, the amount is shown before you pay. Any VAT, GST or sales tax due in your country is calculated and collected by Paddle, our merchant of record, and shown at checkout before you pay.

Consumers in the EU and UK

Fonts are digital content delivered immediately. By completing a purchase you agree that delivery begins at once and acknowledge that the 14-day right of withdrawal no longer applies once the download is available. This does not affect your right to a refund if the files are faulty and we cannot fix them.

Governing law

These terms are governed by the laws of South Africa and disputes will be handled in South African courts, except that consumers in the EU or UK keep the protection of the mandatory consumer laws of their own country and may bring claims there.
