FAQs
What is Typesay?
Typesay is a font marketplace you search by describing what you want. Type a feeling, a use or a style, say it out loud, or show us a picture, and Typesay finds fonts that match. Every result is previewed with your own text.
Are the fonts free?
Most fonts on Typesay are free under open licences such as the SIL Open Font License, which allows personal and commercial use. Paid fonts from independent designers are clearly marked with a price, and you buy a licence for desktop, web or app use. Every font page states its licence.
How does licensing work?
Free fonts include their licence file in the download. Paid fonts are sold under Typesay licence tiers. Desktop covers installing the font and using it in documents, logos and print. Web covers embedding it on your websites. App covers bundling it inside software. See the licensing page for the plain-language version.
What formats are included?
Free downloads include the original TTF or OTF files from the designer plus a web pack with WOFF2 files and CSS. Paid fonts include the files for the licence you buy.
Can I sell my own fonts?
Yes. Create an author account, upload your font files and set your prices. Your first three fonts are commission free, so you keep the full price. From the fourth font Typesay takes 25 percent.
How does the describe search work?
Every font is scored on how it feels, from calm to loud, vintage to futuristic, and on its style, from geometric sans to brush script. Your words are matched against those scores and against font names and designers.
